When Sports Betting Is Legal, the Value of Game Data Soars.
Gambling in New York has long been an unregulated activity and it took years for the state to legalize any form of gambling. The first to go was horse racing, where bettors could engage in pooled betting systems and bets were only allowed at the track. Since then, New York has made some changed to their legal betting standpoints and simulcast betting is also allowed, along with some gaming.
Lega l gambling in New York runs the gamut from Las Vegas-style casinos to racinos, horse race betting, and even a robust lottery. Legalized casino-style gambling began soon after the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act was passed in 1988. As a result, three Native American tribes now operate seven casinos in New York. These feature over 10,000 slot machines, as well as table games.
At the moment, land-based casinos, charitable gambling, horseracing and lotteries are legal in New York. Pari-mutuel wagering on horseracing at licensed events away from the actual racetracks is also permitted, which is unusual in America. Sports betting, while technically legal, is not currently possible within NY, as there are no licensed operators.

The status of NY online sports betting. In 2013, New York voters passed a referendum allowing for gambling expansion. The New York Gaming Economic Development Act paved the way for the construction of four new commercial casinos in the upstate region. It also permits those properties to run sports betting under the approval of the state’s gaming commission.
New York Legal Sports Betting. Sports betting is legal in New York at land based casinos. So far efforts to legalize online sports betting in NY haven't been successful but there is much hope that it won't be long. Such is the geography, many New Yorkers are crossing over into New Jersey to place online bets rather than travel up state to place bets at land based casinos. FanDuel have gained.
